Preventing Migraines - Seven Factors That Trigger the Headache

Migraines are something that can incapacitate even the largest of men and women. When the migraine hits, sounds are amplified, light is brighter and everything seems to be working to leave the person down and out for the entire day.

However, many people do not realize that there are triggers for a migraine, and by avoiding these triggers, the migraine can be prevented from happening, or at least prevent the migraine from becoming too serious.

1. Eating is very important and when you do not get enough to eat, your body has to respond by consuming the body from the inside out. It seems drastic, but it is how we are kept alive during lean times. However, the stress of this can actually cause migraines in some individuals. Therefore, make sure you eat healthy, and often, to ensure you avoid migraines and have a healthy lifestyle.

2. Sleep is also very important for our bodies. While we sleep, our bodies begin to mend and fix anything that may need to be repaired from the day. Our minds relax and we recharge ourselves. However, a lack of sleep means your body will not be relaxed and you will not be recharged. The first place this causes problems for is your brain, and that means migraines.

3. Bright lights and loud noises are also very tough for the senses. Your eyes can become strained, as can your ears, when you are exposed to these situations. This causes overloads in the brain and severe pain from migraines. If you can, wear sunglasses outside and avoid any place that is going to be very loud.

4. Hormone levels affect when you get a migraine. When a woman is having her period, migraines can be quite common, as well as during pregnancy. The hormones put everything out of whack and that causes the brain to work harder, which means there are more migraines for that individual.

5. Weather changes mean changes in the pressure. The first place that pressure changes hit is the head. Think of when you are on a plane and your ears pop, that is a pressure change. However, with weather it is much worse and it can be very debilitating for some people. A sunny day that suddenly gets a thunderstorm can trigger a migraine for someone.

6. When we are stressed, there is extra pressure on the brain to battle the chemical imbalance that stress causes and get our bodies in alignment again. Naturally, this puts more pressure on us and it causes our minds to become overtaxed. An overtaxed mind means that you will get a migraine that can stop you in your tracks.

7. Chocolate, alcohol, nicotine and foods with MSG are also factors that can lead to serious problems with migraines. Try and figure out which ones cause this, and which do not, and then adjust your diet.

Having a migraine is something nobody likes, but it is something we all have to deal with from time to time. When you are dealing with a migraine, you are usually laying down in a cool and dark room to keep yourself sensory deprived. However, if you avoid factors that create migraines, you can end up with much less migraines, and if you do get them, they will be much less severe.
